Boswell Custom Rifle – KUIU SLR Edition

For the past 2 years Steve Boswell has been developing the KUIU Super Light Rifle Edition (SLR).

We introduce the rifle this week at Wild Sheep Foundation Convention and will have it on display in our booth.

This is a fantastic mountain rifle that weighs just over 5 pounds and is an absolute tack driver despite being an ultra-light.

**I have hunted with the prototype in the NWT and Alaska and this is the finest shooting and carrying rifle I have ever used. Steve is meticulous in his craftsmanship and attention to the smallest details. This gun should be considered by anyone researching a rifle in the 5 pound range.

Beautiful rifle. Love the Vias stock.

For those of you who own a Boswell rifle already know but for the ones that don’t know, these are the best custom made rifle out there. I had a 7WSM built by Steve and it turned out better than I could have asked for. Not only does it shoot great, weight and rifle detail is perfect. The rifle feels great and is balanced perfect. For a light weight titanium rifle I was worried about poor grouping Due to the weight. I thought wrong. So if you are considering one last custom rifle you don’t need to look any further. The only problem I have had with mine is, it looks so good I don’t want to scratch in the mountains. Thanks again Steve.

It looks great! I’m sure a lot of people will jump on this!

Will it be possible to just order a rifle stock in vias camo?

  • What action is this rifle based on> Remington 700? Cooper? What? What barrel manufacturer?

  • Kevin

What is the contour and length on the barrel

  • Alan

Bill- if I remember correctly, it’s an x-tremendous action (Remington clone) and a Hart barrel.

  • Alan

Steve is enroute to the Sheep Show in Reno. I had a chance to see and handle the rifle that is going to be at the show. Gun is so freaken light and the Vias pattern matches the clothing like a twin. I know there are a few changes from the original prototype. This particular Kuiu Edition IS lighter than the original version. One of the changes I am aware of is the use of the McMillan stock. Steve will jump on here later I am sure to answer all questions or better yet ask him in person at the show in the Kuiu booth.

  • Thank you all for the kind words. I will try to answer all of your questions in a timely manner, but be patient due to the show schedule.

There are a few changes to the latest edition. Most notably is the use of the McMillan stock and Cerakote finish. As far as barrels go, I use Hart and Lilja. Barrel length is dependent on what the rifle is chambered for. Please keep in mind each rifle is built one at a time for the individual customer and not mass produced as a one size fits all. The customer has many choices in caliber, stock color, metal finish, barrel length, length of pull, etc., hence the word custom. I will always be available to assist you with any questions/decisions you have regarding these choices. A left-handed model will be available soon as well. Currently, I’m only putting the Vias finish on the BCR builds, but that may change later on.

Thank you all for the compliments and interest in BCR. Contact me by phone or email with any questions you may have.

    Sincerely,
    Steve

Understood. Was just curious what the contour and length on this particular build was to get overall weight of 5 lbs. This helps give a measuring stick for other lengths, contours, etc. Thanks.

    Steve,

One reason the VIAS pattern is so effective is that it is made up of large blobs of contrasting colors. You and Jason might want to consider using that pattern at its full size instead of putting on little VIAS-like patches of color. Of course, if the camo on the stock is your own pattern that you like, and not VIAS, then ignore everything that I just said.

Any thoughts of having Bell and Carlson produce some custom stocks in the Vias and Verde camo?

    thanks

    Ron

  • Sean

Jason, your story is a great one and your products from Sitka to Kuiu even better. I would love to have a rifle in the Vias camo but probably not the expense of all the customization of the SLR. You think you’ll ever do something like what was done with the Kimber Mountain Ascent w/ Open Country camo, which is a bit more affordable but still has some custom specs? Thank you for all you do!!
