Sneak Preview
I know so many of you have been waiting for information on the Binocular Harness, so here is a quick photo for you to review. The harness is made with Toray Primeflex Softshell Fabric and Dura-Flex Hardware and attaches to the Binoculars. MUCH, MUCH more information to come soon.
***PLEASE NOTE: These are prototypes and the final colors of the webbing, hardware and trims will be adjusted. The Embroidery is not correct and will be adjusted for production as well.
We are making 2 sizes (L) & (XL) as you can see in the photo. This will allow us to fit up to a 15X56 binocular in our XL size.
I am preparing to cut Purchase Order and I need to know what brand and size of binoculars you own so I can get the sizing ratios correct.

I’ve never used a bino harness before, but see how it could be useful now that I have:

Rick Youngs Ultra-Light … modified slightly to make more quiet and reduce weight to 7/8 oz! I use Vortex Viper HD 8×42 & 10X42.
Oh … I’ve used the Sitka bivy for two years and it has been dropped from my quiver because it weighs 11.25ozs.

BUT…..
I currently use a HPG small pack on the front in combination with my day pack or my large pack on my back to carry my binos and my gps and a map and maybe a cow call or a lenspen and a couple extra shells, etc.
My point is, might you consider a few accessory pockets for that very purpose? When I am hunting and trying to minimize unnecessary movement, it helps to have those items close at hand.

I know you didn’t ask for feedback, but wanted to provide some from past experience since you’re in the prototype stage.
Badlands – I’m not a fan of the Badlands harness, it seems to ride up close to my neck on occasion. Also, since I often wear a backpack over the harness I find the straps sit under the backpack shoulder harness in an odd way. I can’t recall what it was, maybe they end up moving out wider than my backpack shoulder straps. I never bought their bino case. I liked the idea of having a magnetic opening, but found it would almost snap shut if I didn’t pay attention to it. No big deal 90% of the time, unless archery hunting in a quiet setting. Then that sound is way too loud.
In all straps, Badlands or otherwise, my swaro 10×42 slowly loosen the strap and they bino’s end up at my waist by the end of the day.
Extra pockets are handy, but only shallow ones.

If we make it weather proof it is too noisy. It comes with a rain cover.

Good call. Good binos are inherently weatherproof already.
I just don’t like stuff getting wet. When stuff gets wet, it has to dry and that’s hard to do sometimes on backpack hunts.
I just thought without breathability or weight/sy being big considerations on this project, there would have been a suitable waterproof material.

After crawling around the rocks for the first time here in Spain to get my first spanish ibex I realized that I need full harness for my binos, not the simple shoulder harness. Less weight but let’s the binos just hang loose to hit the rocks, trees and brush a bit more than I like. Yours appears to hold it close, can’t wait for my pictures and details.
I generally use my KOWA Genesis 10.5×44 binos but occasionally go with the Kowa Genesis 8×33 and when tree standing the Kowa BD 8×25.
I also want to carry an emergency knife, lighter, SPOT and possibly my Leica rangefinder in the case on my chest… so small separate pockets are important to me…

I’m a little worried the XL will be too big for my 10×42′s and the L will be too small. I’m hoping that you will make one of them the ideal size for a typical 10×42 bino since that is clearly the most common choice of hunters. Looking forward to replacing my Bino Bivy with something lighter yet just as functional.

Swarovski SLC 10X42, likely upgrade to a rangefinding 10X42 of some sort in the near future.
Regarding the small pocket, can it be sized to accommodate a lens pen? Keeping one handy with the binos would be awesome.But a zippered pocket would be best, as elastic/mesh ones get chewed up if you have to wade through buckbrush.

if you want to set yourself apart have a good way to attach, carry, and quickly use a rangefinder w/ the bino harness (other than some cheesy magnet that lets it dangle). also please have the harness so it will cinch tight and not bounce, stretch, or move when you crawl or run. i would pay alot of money for such a harness. i have tried every single harness on the market and not impressed.

I would like to see you consider placing a clip or hook on the bottom of the Bino system so that while glassing you could hang your bow hands free from the D-Loop. I really like the minimalist approach.

I have Nikon monarch 10×42 binos. I currently have a Sitka harness but am not in love with it, for several reasons. Especially because there is no good way to attach my leupold rangefinder to it and keep it protected from the elements. Is this something that you plan to incorporate into your harness?
